Happy New Year everyone.

What an amazing start the the new year!  You have really impressed me with all of your hard work, passion for learning and attitude towards your school work.  I am sure that you will keep it up all year!

The Blog for this week is very exciting because it’s the start of the new term!

In English we have started our new book to read and a fact book called the Atlas of Adventure. It is amazing and very well illustrated. We looked at lots of different pictures. These included the London and the London Eye, the Highland Games, the Amazon Rainforest and the Holi festival in India. The illustrations were really beautiful and very colourful, we could see places, people, food, animals and adventure. They were extremely detailed. We are looking forward to finding out even more about the world.

In Maths we have been recapping Fractions, in particular halves, quarters and eights and sixths.

In our Geography lessons we have looked at the different continents. We briefly studied all of them, and the looked more closely and found out how many countries each continent had.  Africa has 54 countries, Asia has 48, Europe has 44, North America has 23, followed by Australasia with 14 and lastly South America with just 12 countries.

We have been thinking about being healthy and fit as part of our Science and PSHCE topics. Nutrients are very important when eating healthily. Carbohydrates are important because they give you lots of energy – bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Protein helps our muscles and helps us to grow strong and improves our energy levels. Water is very healthy for us to drink. It also helps us keep clean. Vitamins and minerals can be found in fruit and vegetables.

Rugby – We played lots of different games to help practice throwing and catching. We played a rugby tig game, where we had to tig each other with a rugby ball. We threw the balls at cones to knock them off, and learnt to pass the balls to each other.

New Book vote – We learnt about fair voting and democracy to choose a new book for our class to read. The three choices were The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop, The Secret Viking Adventure and Fintan Fedora the World's Worst Explorer.  Wizz Pop won, so we are hoping that it will be a good one.

It has been a short week but absolutely crammed with new learning and new things for the start of the new year!
