Week ending 4th March 2022

Posted: Mar 3, 2022 by: Sarah Kendal (SKendal) on: Class 5

What an amazing start to a new half term we have had this week!

A huge well done to all of the children who took part in the Strictly Pennine performance. All of the staff are feeling very proud of the resilience and determination shown in unexpected circumstances. It was certainly a performance to remember!

This week we have continued to read 'The Explorer' and have produced some super diary entries, written from a character's point of view.

We celebrated World Book Day by reading a short story from George Layton's, The Fib (some of us even confessed to our own little fibs!). The story inspired us to write our own story endings. It appears we have some budding authors within the class! The story was set in 1950s Britain and to help us think about what life was like at this time, we studied some of Lowry's paintings. Using watercolours and poster paint, we then created our own versions.

In Maths, we found out how to reflect shapes using a mirror line. We had lots of fun with practical activities before reflecting our own drawings of 2D shapes.

We introduced our new History topic, Ancient Maya, and created timelines to compare the events of this time in Central America with Britain.

Today, we have ended the week with some role-play in RE, tag rugby in PE and a special meet and greet the author event organised by Read. We met Gareth P Jones, the Blue Peter Award-winning author, and listened to his latest story.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Love from the year 5 team.
