Week ending Friday 3rd December

Posted: Dec 2, 2021 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Hello!

I hope you are all enjoying your advent calendars - I know I am!

To kick off this week's round-up, here's a bit of clarification on what we are doing for the Xmas performance, which will be on Monday 13th December, at 2.15pm.
Your child will have some lines to learn for a poem and some songs. In addition, some will be writing a short speech, or telling a joke. Any help you can give them with this would be appreciated. They will not need any official costumes, or outfits, but if you have any Xmas hats (elves, reindeers, Santa, etc), then they would be appreciated. I have invited them to wear a Xmas jumper for the performance also (or anything seasonal).

This week, we have begun preparing for the performance, in and around some assessments - which we will send home during the last week. We've had two more Claytons in class - Billie-Rose taking a group in Guided Reading and Paddy supporting maths.

Maths has been fractions based, with a large emphasis on fluency with conversion between improper fractions and mixed numbers - then we moved on to adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions.

We have also done the usual Speed Tables, in preparation for the times table test, which is next week.

Here is a copy of a Speed Table sheet - we encourage everyone to join in at home! Speed Tables Left 12.xlsx

Topic this week was a look at the timeline of Ancient Greece - putting in the key events and understanding their relevance.

We also did the usual PE of handball and gymnastics and brass practice in music, concentrating on some Xmas tunes, which I'm sure you are hearing at home.

Finally, on Wednesday, we had an exciting afternoon with Wei Zhao and Guofeng Zheng, who are both from Shanghai, but are currently living and working in Huddersfield, for the Confucius Institute of Huddersfield University. They entertained us all with some fascinating information about the history and culture of China, as well as teaching us all some basic Mandarin. Watch this space, as we are hoping this will be the start of something...

Have a fantastic weekend,

Mr C, Mrs J, Mrs M, Mrs P and Miss M
