Week Ending Friday 12th November

Posted: Nov 11, 2021 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Hello everyone...

This week, we have been finding out what happened to Odysseus, when he decided to stop on what looked like a paradise island, but turned out to be the home of the Polyphemus (who is Polyphemus, I hear you ask...). We wrote diaries to capture our thoughts and feelings - oh, and we drew a picture of the Cyclops!

In maths, we have been looking at negative numbers and decimals, before tackling Roman Numerals (just in case we want to work for BBC productions, read some fancy clocks, play in a Superbowl, or climb the abbey steps in Whitby).

PE - handball... just one of the greatest PE sports ever!

We have continued with our Greek topic, compiling facts and understanding the differences between Greece and the Holme Valley, whilst also refining our map-reading skills with 6-figure map-reading activities.

Science was fun, as we worked on air resistance with practical activities, using aliens on parachutes (as you do) and running across the playground with large sheets of cardboard. We planned our own investigations and had a certain amount of independent scientific leeway, which was very successful.

On Thursday 11th November, at 11am, we observed a 2 minute silence, together with the rest of the school, to remember those who sacrificed themselves in order that we can enjoy the freedoms that we often take for granted today. Each day, year 6 children have been coming into class with poppies and we have been donating to this very worthy cause.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr C, Mrs J, Mrs M, Mrs P and Miss M
