Week Ending Friday 5th November

Posted: Nov 5, 2021 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

Remember, remember... something?

First week back and we've continued to pack things in! The topic is now Ancient Greece and we have started to look at the story of Odysseus in English, writing a letter to Penelope as we set sail for a rather long war in Troy!

We also had a superb virtual lesson with author, Steve Camden, through our FANTASTIC local bookshop, Read.

He worked with us on throwing a storyline together; gathering ideas for writing a poem, or an exciting story.

In maths, we've been looking at angles; Mrs Johnson and I have honestly never seen a class as good with protractors - very, very positive! To add to that, the improvement in times tables across the class since September is now looking very good. Well done everyone - keep it up!

The topic of Forces began in Science, as we worked with gravity and used Newtonmeters to test push and pull on objects in class. This was a lot of fun!

We have started to read a new class book - my all-time favourite childrens' book - Someday Angeline, by Louis Sachar. I LOVE reading this book. It must be the 12th time (by my calculations) and it just gets better!

In Geography, we are re-visiting map-reading and applying it to Greece - where is Greece? How about Ithaca (where Odysseus is from)?

Art - Miss Monday has begun a half term on levers and moving parts and re-visited the Space topic as a starter.

I told you it was a busy week! To add to that, we have had the final week of swimming. Oh, and here are some photos from music (brass with Mr Whiteman).

As you may have seen in the newsletter, we will be running a range of fun activities for the children during the week of the 15th November for Children in Need. If you are in a position to donate, we are asking this to be done online via this link. Please don't bring any money into school. Thank you!
