Week ending Friday 1st October

Posted: Sep 30, 2021 by: Martin Clayton (MClayton) on: Class 5

October? Already?

Maths this week has been a week of addition and subtraction (mental and column). Soon it will be multiplication and division - so we are working furiously to try and consolidate times tables in other sessions.

English - Who is Tim Peake? We have been finding out all about this great Briton and discovering lots of facts in advance of our biography writing. We have also been looking at spelling patterns with affixes and continuing with our words of the day, which are being used throughout creative writing and our weekly topics.

Topic - continuing Out of This World by looking at the planets; can we remember them all with a mnemonic? How far away are they? We have been throwing maths into this by converting km and miles, using calculators. The art work is still weaving its way around this on a Thursday afternoon; this week Miss Monday was working with the children on planet Earth. The same afternoon we are also doing brass, which I'm sure you are all well aware of at home.

This week, we also shared a break time with our buddies from year 2 and had a fantastic time. We will be planning lots of shared activities this year.

Our class awards are numerous - MVP (most valuable pupil), Row Awards, Star of the Week to mention a few. It is very rare that one child scoops the lot, but Josie did just that, this week!

We also drew the first winners for the class 5 reading competition. Congratulations to Austin, Max and Mia - who each received a new book. The October competition has now begun... get reading!

Brilliant... it could be YOU!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
Mr C, Mrs J, Mrs M, Miss M and the team.
