We are going to look at playscripts this week. We did them last year using the BFG as inspiration. This week, we are going to create another playscript, but I am going to give you a bit more freedom on what to choose.

First of all, you need to make sure you know what these are:

  • Stage directions in brackets.
  • Scene name at the top.
  • Character name followed by a colon in the margin.
  • New line for each new character speaking.
  • Inverted commas are NOT used for speech.
  • An introduction to the scene at the top of it.

I have got an example of a playscript here. If you can pick out the features above in it, you are ready to move to the next part. So first, pick the features out!

Act 1 Scene 5

Jimmy and Jeff are sat in the living room. Although they are nervous about their missing tortoise (Bill), they are feeling optimistic after receiving a phone call from a neighbour who has spotted a tortoise in his garden. They are discussing what to do about the situation.

Jimmy: (Clapping his hands together) I'm telling you, that's Bill!

Jeff: (Remaining calm) Let's not get our hopes up until we are sure. There are plenty of people in our village who own tortoises you know!

Jimmy: I know that, but Mr. Jolly said it had a strange marking on its shell - that's got to be Bill!

Jeff: It does sound like him (he rubs his chin thoughtfully). I tell you what, let's head over there now and take a look.

Jimmy: (Jumping up eagerly) Yeah! Great idea!

(The two boys run off stage)

So, after you have reminded yourself of the features of a playscript, you need to choose what topic you want to do your playscript on.

I have a couple of videos for you to watch, that you could turn into a playscript.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0moCnj1Vqw         Since you all go on about Peppa Pig so much, here is an episode with them on a boat. The first scene lasts up to 0:40 on the video. This could be the scene you use, or you could watch more of it and choose a different scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFl8nzZuExE      Here is a scene from Shrek that has quite a bit of dialogue between two characters. It is a bit harder, but there are lots of opportunities to turn this into a playscript. Only watch up to 1:06.

Your task for today is to choose which video you are turning into a playscript. Then, make notes whilst watching the part you are turning into a play script. Note down what they say and any actions they do. This will help when your write your playscript tomorrow. You will need to watch it more than once and keep pausing it.

Maths

We did some time problems all the way back in March when we first went into lockdown. I remember some of you found it difficult, and I am keen to revisit it. BBC Bitesize has done a great lesson using football as a theme.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zbdwg7h

Activity 1 and 2 should be done, but 3 and 4 are optional. This is a great resource and should help you with time.

Here are your 10 maths questions:

1.) 493 X 37

2.) 9568 divided by 6

3.) 4/5 as a percentage

4.) Which 3D shape has a square and 4 triangles in its net?

5.) 77/88 as a fraction in its lowest form.

6.) What is the prime number BEFORE 40?

7.) 80,000 divided by 40

8.) 9.339 + 7/100

9.) 67% as a decimal.

10.) 12 squared add 11 squared

History/Art

Last week, we looked at Holbein as a painter of monarchs. A recent trend I have noticed with some pet owners is that they get a 'portrait' of their pet done in a Holbein style. I think it is hilarious! I thought we could try to recreate this with either one of the pictures below, or you could even paint/draw your own pet in this style!

This may take some practice, so don't be disheartened if it doesn't work at first.

If you are really struggling with the painting, you could make it into a collage by finding Holbein portraits and cutting them out yourself and adding a picture of your pet onto it.

Did you complete Mr. C's challenge yesterday? Try it out if you didn't! If not, you can try and beat my 20,000 steps I did on Saturday.
