Remote Learning Friday 5th June 2020

Posted: Jun 4, 2020 by: Emma Barker (EBarker) on: Class 2

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’ve had a good week, thank you to everyone that has emailed me. If you haven’t been in touch it would be lovely to hear from you. I know as time goes on, it seems to be getting harder and harder not to be at school. My littlest boy, Ed is finding it hard at home – perhaps you could send him some advice or words of encouragement? If you are finding it hard, I think that reading the school blogs helps you to feel connected to school – not just the Y2 blog but the others too – Mr C always has a really good joke for everyone and it’s nice to see what other people are up to even if we might be having a down day or an ‘unproductive’ day. Anyhow, I hope you’ll enjoy the work today.

So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Maths

LO: Puzzles

  • 12 + ? = 20
  • 12 – 2 = 17 - ?
  • Write 23 in words.
  • Double 15
  • 10 x 10 =
  • Name the 3D shape:

Look at these:

These are called Arithmagons – special maths puzzles. The mystery numbers in 2 circles add up to the number in the square between them.  Have a look at these two and see if you can work them out – don’t scroll down just yet for the answer! You need to work around the triangle and ensure each circle adds up to the square in between them.

Here are some more to have a go at:

English

Can you remember what a preposition is? Have a look at this powerpoint with your adult and go through some of the activities on there. You can also have a go at this game:

preposition game

How are you getting on with your mind maps from Wednesday? Which animal did you chose? Have a look at Sam’s here, it might give you some ideas for your own:

If you’ve finished your research, I’d now like you to draw a detailed picture of your Australian creature. As you draw, think about all the facts you know about it. Your picture will go with the writing that we will do next week, so really take care with it.

Creative Friday

So with Australia as our theme this half term, I thought it would be fantastic to have a go at painting in the Aboriginal style. Here’s mine below, I’ve painted it on an a piece of MDF that Mr B was throwing out, but you can use paper, card, a cereal box or whatever you have to hand. I only have blue, yellow, red and white paint at home so I had to mix my colours carefully, but again just use what you have at home. First of all I drew out my platypus using pencil – but only very faintly. I then blocked in the larger colour areas. I left the green background till last. When the base coat was dry, I use a cotton bud to make all the white dots, this takes care and patience so that you keep the dot separate, but it’s worth it!

If you look at this website:

Aboriginal Art

You’ll see lots of examples of dot patterns, so you don’t have to paint an animal, it could be a patterned piece. There’s a great tutorial on here: Aboriginal Art Tutorial and if you google Aboriginal art, lots of ideas come up – have fun!

Have you ever heard of a lamington? This is an Australian cake, I thought you could have a go at making them over the next few weeks. I have to confess, I haven’t had time to do mine this week, but I intend to over the week. So perhaps we can compare result soon?! Here’s a recipe to follow:

I hope you have a wonderful day! Keep sending me your photos.

Mrs B x
