Remote Learning Friday 1st May 2020

Posted: Apr 30, 2020 by: Emma Barker (EBarker) on: Class 2

Friday has come around again! The weeks do seem to go fast. I thought you’d like an update on my seeds and my progress on the 13 x 5km runs

As you can hopefully see, the peas aren’t doing so bad and the salad leaves are coming along nicely. Last week I planted carrot seeds, leeks and onions, so I am watching those in anticipation. I’m quite proud of myself so far, normally everything green withers and dies pretty quickly! I’m using copper pipes and egg shells to try and keep the slugs and snails away. Plus I've completed my running challenge! Now it's going to be the Race for Life (I hope you've started planning yours!). I’ve loved all your pictures from this week, please email me anything you’d like on the gallery by lunchtime today to give me chance to put together a blog post for later today.

So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Maths

LO: Add two amounts of money totalling less than £1 and find change.

  • 41 + 36 =
  • 50 – 28 =
  • 7 + 32 + 8 =
  • 24 ÷ 4 =
  • Write seventy-seven in digits.
  • Partition 89 into 10s and 1s.

Have a look at this stationery shop price list:

I’d like you to choose two items from the shop and then pay for them with £1. How much change would you receive? Here’s an example of your working…

You could set up your own shop with items from the kitchen cupboards, spend some time adding price labels and then invite people into your shop! Work out the total that they spend and then their change.

English

What words did you come up with on Wednesday? If you didn’t get chance to complete your own word bank, here’s mine, which you could use or you could magpie some ideas from it. So today I would like us to describe the picture using proper sentences using some of the words from yesterday. When you write your description, I would also like each of your sentences to start with a different letter of the alphabet. Here’s the alphabet, you might want to write it out on a piece of paper so you can cross a letter as you use it…

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

Now you could do this in order (Will and I wrote a story like this yesterday and it was challenging but fun!) or randomly. Here’s a few sentences to give you an idea and get you started (notice I have underlined the first letter of the sentence but you don’t have to do this!).

A man sits beside a cat, a pipe perched in his mouth. Beneath the cat, whose name is ‘Mozwer’, there are coils of old rope. Calmly, the sea laps into the stone, harbour wall. Distance calls of seagulls can be heard. Elegantly, the cat sits upright with its sleek, brown fur. Further into the distance, you can see a small island of rocks.

Hopefully, this makes sense! Towards the end of the alphabet it gets harder (there are not too many words beginning with ‘X’), so don’t use a letter that might spoil your description. This is just a good technique to ensure you don’t start all your sentences with the word ‘the’. I look forward to reading your results!

Creative Friday

I’ve set a 2Do in PurpleMash for you today, it is an art project about drawing a fish. You might like to have a look at this tutorial too:

How are you doing with your camper van ideas? Are you ready to start creating yours? Are you making it out of Lego or boxes? I’d love to see some of your camper van creations.

Enjoy your Friday!

Stay safe!
