Remote Learning Tuesday 28th April 2020

Posted: Apr 27, 2020 by: Emma Barker (EBarker) on: Class 2

Good morning Class 2! It was lovely being in school yesterday as I got so many emails from you all and I made a few phone calls too. I hope that when we look back on this time in a few years time, you will have some fond memories about all your adventures and the time you are having with your families. At 11am today there will be a minute's silence to remember NHS workers who have sadly died during the coronavirus outbreak, I hope you will partake.

So the suggested schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or Go Noodle

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Maths

LO: Add pairs of 2-digit numbers by partitioning or counting on.

  • 35 + 24 =
  • 65 – ? = 38
  • 5 + 35 + 9 =
  • 60 ÷ 10 =
  • Write thirteen in digits.
  • Partition 89 into 10s and 1s.

How did you get on with adding yesterday? Talk to your adult about how you would do: 31 + 46, can you also work out 46 + 31? What can you say about this? Today you could use this number generator to make your own number sentences to complete. The more practise you do, the better!

English

Hopefully, yesterday you had a good conversation about what a legend is. A legend is a story that has some truth in it and the Mousehole Cat is a retelling of the true story of Tom Bawcock which is commemorated every December in the village of Mousehole in Cornwall.

What I'd like you to do today is have a look at this website: https://www.cornwalls.co.uk/mousehole and find out about Mousehole. You could write a few sentences about what the village is like and try to locate it on a map. Now can you answer these questions:

  • Mousehole is a picturesque fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall between which town and Land’s End?
  • What are local cottages made out of?
  • Which writer described Mousehole as the ‘loveliest’ village in England?
  • Which lifeboat was sadly lost at sea in 1981?
  • How would you describe the streets in Mousehole?
  • Which cove can you walk to on the coastal path?

Music

Last week you were learning the song 'I do like to be beside the seaside'. This week can you use 2explore on PurpleMash to compose your own seaside tune. You could be inspired by the waves and the birds. Save your composition in your file for me to have a listen to!

PE

So last week you were making maps of your house or garden. How did that go? Can you now use your map to create a trail. You could place clues/letters/numbers in locations around your house or garden then draw them on the map. Ask someone to use the map to find all your hidden clues/letters/numbers. Can they then do the same for you?

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Enjoy your work today. Remember to keep in touch, either by emailing me at class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk or by commenting on the blog. I’ll be in touch if I don’t hear from you to see how you are.

Stay safe!
