Remote Learning Tuesday 20th April 2020

Posted: Apr 20, 2020 by: Emma Barker (EBarker) on: Class 2

Good morning lovely Year 2s! I hope that you got back into the swing of home learning yesterday. Don't worry if some days you don't get through everything or decide to do something different. There's so much online now, you might want to do some of the BBC Bitesize activities. There's also a great website, which launched yesterday, at https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-2/#subjects

Here you can pick your lessons and do online quizzes. Don't forget that I am following our curriculum and our long term plan, so everything I do is personal to YOU and Netherthong Primary!

So the schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins (have you read any books that you could recommend to your class mates?)

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am or how about some Go Noodle if you fancy a change.

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

Maths

LO: Count in 3s, making links to multiplication; identify multiples of 3.

  • 5 + 78 =
  • 35 – ? = 18
  • 5 + 15 + 4 =
  • 50 ÷ 10 =
  • Write one hundred and seven in digits.
  • ½ of 60 =

How far can you count in threes? You might be able to say these straight away, or you might want to write them down. When you write them down, can you spot any patterns? What do numbers in the three times table end in? Did you know that there is a trick to knowing whether a number is in the three times table? Here it is, you can impress your family with this one...

Take the number 873 - find the digital root by adding the digits together...

8 + 7 + 3 = 18, keep going until you have a one digit number.

1 + 8 = 9. If the result is a 3, a 6 or a 9, then it's in the three times table! Look again...

534 = 5 + 3 + 4 = 12, 1 + 2 = 3, so 534 is in the three times table!

How about 386? 3 + 8 + 6 = 17, 1 + 7 = 8 so 386 is NOT in the three times table.

Have a go yourself, ask someone to give you a three digit number, investigate whether it's in the three times table. Repeat!

Literacy

Which were your favourite poems from yesterday's book? I really like the one about flip-flops, it’s a bit of a tongue twister isn't it!? I like this book because of the wonderful pictures as well. Nick Sharratt is a really brilliant illustrator, can you think of any other books he's illustrated? I really like 'One Mole Digging A Hole' - I used to read this all the time to the boys! I'd like you to think about something to do with the seaside and draw your own Nick Sharratt style picture. You might choose a beach scene or a selection of ice-creams and ice lollies! Colour your picture in bright colours and then add any adjectives (describing words) around the outside.

Music

Have you heard the song 'I do like to be beside the seaside.'? You can find a version of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcHyyuGjuk0

Can you learn this song and perform it for your family to make them smile? You could add your own percussion or make a shaker to add a bit of rhythm.

P.E.

We would have been orienteering in our school grounds this half term. The first thing you need for orienteering is a map. Can you make a map of either your outside space or your inside space, think about the space from above (we call this a bird's eye view)? Once you've done this, check that it is accurate by finding different ways to get around your space - walking, jogging, running, side-stepping, giant steps, bunny hops - anything to get your heart going!

Here is the Lego challenge for the day from Miss H. Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

Make sure you get plenty of fresh air, exercise and also some downtime. We're loving movie nights at the moment, snuggling on the sofa with some popcorn - can you recommend your favourite film?

See you tomorrow!
