Remote Learning Monday 20th April 2020

Posted: Apr 16, 2020 by: Emma Barker (EBarker) on: Class 2

Hello everyone and welcome back to the summer term! I hope you have all had a good holiday, that everyone is safe and well. We've had some adventures over the last two weeks. You'll be pleased to know that my seeds are still growing and I've transferred some into the garden. Will and Ed helped me create a little veg patch. We had two nights in the tent in the garden - in typical British fashion, it rained on the second night! We've done lots of walking and discovered a great tree swing in the woods near our house. I've also been making masks to donate to the NHS. What have you been up to? Thank you to everyone that emailed over the holidays, I've been having a few technical hitches so couldn't log on to answer as many as I wanted to. I'm hoping I'm fully working now!

So we're back into the swing of home learning - I hope you're all organised and ready to go. I sorted out all Ed and Will's home learning things over the holidays - things were getting a big disorganised and we kept losing things here and there. Hopefully you have everything you need to stay focused and motivated! If you need a new reward chart, you can download one here.

So the schedule for today is as follows...

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20 mins (have you read any books that you could recommend to your class mates?)

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing a PE lesson at 9am (Did you keep this up during the holidays?)

Maths/Literacy - do this in batches of 20 mins each, build in breaks.

LO: Count in steps of 2s, 3s and 5s.

Today's 6 questions...

  • Write sixty-six in digits.

Can you chant in 2s, 3s and then 5s? How far can you go? Can you chant and march at the same time? Perhaps you can do this with an adult, you say one number and then they say the next. Write your numbers down. Which numbers appear in your 2s, 3s and 5s sequence?

Now have a go at this fun game:

Our new topic for this half term is 'I do like to be beside the seaside!' I'm sure it's something we are all looking forward to doing when we can. But for now, we can imagine and use books to help us! Here's a lovely book, that I would have shared with you in school. Can you read it with your family and discuss which is your favourite poem and why? You could write your response in your yellow book.

History

I mentioned that our topic is 'I do like to be beside the seaside', over the next few lessons they will be finding out what seaside holidays were like in the past. Today I'd like you to talk about your holidays and have a look at this presentation. Have you ever been on a seaside holiday or gone to the seaside on a day trip? What was it like? What did you do? Can you interview people in your family about their favourite holidays? Perhaps you can Facetime someone in your family and prepare some questions beforehand. How have holidays changed? Have they got any photos they could show you? Can you spot how things have changed?

Here's a seaside memory game to play. If you can, print off this sheet twice, cut it up and place face down. Take turns to pick two cards, if you get a matching pair, then you get another turn. They winner is the one with the most pairs.

Here is the Lego challenge for the day from Miss H. Remember to email us your creations! If you don't have Lego, don't worry any construction material will do …

I hope you'll enjoy these activities today! Remember to email me your photos for Friday's gallery and comment on the blog to keep in touch!

Stay safe,

Mrs B x
