Remote Learning Thursday 2nd April 2020

Posted: Apr 1, 2020 by: Mrs Parker (NHemingway) on: Class 2

Good morning, Miss H here again!

You are all working so hard. I have been doing a lot of baking with my Grandma and Mum recently which we have all found to be very therapeutic and tasty! Also, I found an app where you can colour by numbers. When we are colouring, time floats away and the mandalas are especially relaxing to sit and colour. Here's the suggested timetable for today:

E.R.I.C. - Everybody Reading in Class for 20mins (remember to record your reading in your reading record)

Active time - Joe Wicks is showing guiding a PE lesson at 9am (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ)

Break – (why don’t you try baking something as a treat to cheer someone up?)

Fun activity – With everyone at home, take it in turns to close your eyes (or use a blind fold) to draw an elephant. What will yours look like? Here is mine, my Grandma’s and Mrs Hemingway’s attempt …

Science

Linking with our topic on the uses of everyday materials, can you find the best material to help protect Humpty Dumpty? What materials can you find at home?

What you will need:

  • Boiled eggs
  • Ziploc bags or something similar
  • Materials to test – what can you find at home? Cotton wool, rice, bubble wrap. You will need 5 in total.

Place your materials to test in a Ziploc bag, add the egg and make sure it’s completely covered by the test material. Hold the bag at the top as high as you can and drop the bag. Check the egg for damage. Repeat for each material, if the egg cracks use a new egg for the next test.

Variables to keep constant:

  • Height to drop the egg
  • Force at which to drop the egg. I would advise using the same person to hold the bag as high as they could and then drop without using any added force. This means the height and force should be the same for each egg.
  • Amount of material to test – this is a tricky one. We drew a line on the bag and filled to the same height with each material, there are some issues with this as the bubble wrap had more air gaps than the other two materials.
  • Placement of the egg – if the egg was on the bottom of the bag it wouldn’t be cushioned so try to make sure the egg is in the middle of the material being tested.
  • Surface on which to drop the egg – this should be the same.

Write an explanation of what you have done. Can you record your results in a table in your yellow books? An example is here.

PSHE

Pass a smile around your family. Now tell each member of your family something you admire or particularly like about them. Can they tell you something positive about you? I know there’ll be too many positive things to say all at once so you could write them all down first before you say it out loud!

P.E.

Keeping with the football focus from last week, can you make a goal and practise aiming. If it is too easy, put an object in the way (Or a grown up!) so you have to aim around it. How many shots on target can you make in a row? Can you set up a competition in your house to see who can get the most?

Computing

On Purplemash, can you make a picture on 2Calculate by colouring in certain squares? A flower? A pirate? An elephant? Remember to take a picture and send it in so I can look at your amazing work! Here is mine that I did …

Here is the Lego challenge for today! Remember to email me your creations! If you don’t have Lego, don’t worry any construction material will do …

Keep Smiling and stay safe!

Miss H
