Sunshine and Showers

Friday 18th March

Another Spring week has passed with a mixture of sunshine and showers!
Forest school this week was rained off eventually, but when we were out, we thought about how the weather changes so much in Spring and how we need both the sun and the rain to encourage new growth. We read The Weather Monster and shared lots of wonderful adjectives to describe the main characters, Tom and Ron, and created some fabulous collages using natural materials. Working in teams wasn't always easy so we thought of ways to cooperate and work out solutions. We've enjoyed out outdoor learning this week and topped it off with our fun 'Red Nose and Spoon Race' today, which everyone loved!  Our winner took a special bow in assembly!

We continued our Spring theme in Science, looking at seasonal changes and of course, longer days (the thing we all look forward to). We talked about how the days are longer in Spring and Summer and we looked at how shadows can change during the day depending on where we are in relation to the Sun. We had great fun making shadow puppets and testing it out using torches!

In English we've been looking at portmanteaus, linked to our book Woolf (part sheep, part wolf = woolf). We've been creating our own characters and describing them.  In Maths, we've been looking at mass and comparing weights - working out which objects are heavier and lighter.

In DT, we have planned the design for our Motte & Bailey castles.  Your child will be coming home with their design and we'd ask that you can help them to find their materials over the weekend so that next week they have the equipment in school to begin building.  We will have some spare resources but please do the best you can to find the items your child needs!

We wish you a lovely weekend and, fingers crossed, some spring sunshine from The Weather Monster!
