First Week Back After the Holidays

Posted: Mar 4, 2022 by: admin on: Class 1

4th March 2022

It was so lovely to see everyone (apart from poor Miss Hemmingway!) back this week and we’ve had a super week, despite the rain.  Of course, we wish Miss Hemmingway a very speedy recovery and look forward to having her back soon!  On behalf of the team, can we also say thank you to you and the children for your super half-term homework efforts. We’ve been wowed by the effort the children have put in and the hard work done.  Very impressive.

This week the children have enjoyed World Book Day and ran themselves ragged looking through books trying to find books that matched their scavenger hunt. It was absolutely fantastic to see them pouring over the books and spotting things and discovering new titles!  We bravely shared our activities in whole school assembly and loved our virtual session with author Gareth P Jones today.

In other learning activities this week, we’ve started our topic ‘Let the Battle Commence’ and in DT have explored world famous free-standing structures including the Eiffel Tower, The Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal.  This is all in preparation for building our own Motte and Bailey Castles later this half term.  In Science, we re-capped our weather knowledge and the children had a go at being weather forecasters for the afternoon, adding to their vocabulary with ‘showers’, ‘moderate’, ‘breeze’, ‘sporadic’ and much more!

The children have had an active week too! PE this term is football and Tag Rugby and the class had great fun in both.  I can see we have some future footballers in the class!

Have a lovely weekend and here’s keeping our fingers crossed for some brighter weather next week!
