Owl-tastic fun!

Posted: Jan 28, 2022 by: Mrs Parker (NHemingway) on: Class 1

28th January 2022

What an owl-tastic week it has been packed full of fun activities!

In English, we have been looking at non-fiction books all about owls. We looked at the features of these books before writing our very own fact file of everything we have learnt about owls. We finished our week by creating a poster with information about owls. Did you know that some owls like to pretend that they are dead to avoid getting caught by a predator?

This week snowdrop group looked at the different trees that we have around our school and found some apple and pear trees that they planted when they were in reception! We thought about different seeds like cherry stones, acorns and apple pips that we need to grow a tree and then we planted to some pine cones. Hopefully we will see young pine trees starting to grow soon! There are lots of mole hills on our school field so we borrowed some of the fresh soil from them as we have found out it is very good for growing. (We were very quiet so we didn’t disturb the moles!)

Throughout school this week, all children have been giving speeches explaining why they would make a good representative for their class. We were lucky enough to have 7 people who bravely stood in front of the class and read their speech out! We held a democratic vote and the children elected Esmé Morrell to represent Year 1! We were incredibly proud of all the children who took part!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
