Friday 3rd April

Posted: Apr 2, 2020 by: Elaine Matthews (EMatthews) on: Class 3

Good morning all!

Thank you so much for all your amazing hard work; I am so proud of you all!

Here are Friday's activities!

9.00am Joe Wicks P.E. workout (via YouTube)

Let's all join amazing Joe Wicks and see if we can get really fit and healthy!

Science Fun!

If you managed to find some white carnations in the supermarket, did you try placing one of the flowers in coloured water to see what happens? If you haven't yet, please do have a go; the transformation is lovely to see.

Can you make sure you draw and label the flower once you have placed it in the coloured water (blue food colouring is a good one to try).

Leave it for a few hours, then have a close inspection and note the difference.

Now draw and label it again.

Have a look on Purplemash to find out why this happens ('Transpiration')

You could add a conclusion ie tell us why this happened.

Holiday Science;

Please look out for 'sunflower' and 'beans' to plant whilst you're shopping in the supermarket (not the Heinz variety)!!

Save empty plastic cartons to use as plant pots.

Please could you plant one sunflower seed and look after it well! Please make a diary to record your observations (it might be the number of leaves, height of plant etc). How will you record your results?

Could you also plant  beans in 3 separate plastic containers (one bean in each); label them A, B and C

If you use clear containers and place the bean down the side you will see progress quicker!

A. Provide lots of sun and water as required.

B. Provide no light and water as required.

C. Provide lots of sun and no water.

Can you predict what will happen? Take note of your observations.

Maths;

8 questions;

  1. 666 divided by 3
  2. 1/3 of 99
  3. 762 - 237
  4. 628 + 165
  5. 3/9 + 4/9
  6. What time is it?
  7. £4.26 + £3.25
  8. 955 divided by 5

Problem;

Archie and Emma had great fun making their Viking shields. If they started at 11.00 and finished at 12.30, how long did it take to make them?

Today I'd really like you to continue practising with your clocks but this time can you make a time with the clock, tell an adult what time it says and then ALSO what time it would be on a digital clock too. Keep practising lots and lots so you can understand both analogue and digital times before the end of the Easter holidays!

I have set 3 'time' activities on 'Mathletics'. Please could you try all 3. You could then try other 'time' activities too if you like.

Reading:

Please select one of your comprehensions out of your pack and carefully read it before answering the questions.

Literacy;

Here are a few spellings I'd like you to practise. Copy each one at least 4 times; see if you can learn them!

'sc' but 's' sound

scene

scent

science

'que' but 'k' sound

antique

unique

physique

Today please can you try and complete your Viking Information Text or your play script (Into the Forest).

If you have completed these please continue with your special diary; try and write an entry every few days. It would be lovely to know what you have been doing when you haven't actually been busy with school jobs!!!

Hope you all have a fantastic Easter break. I won't be blogging every day over Easter but will keep tuning in to set you a little challenge so keep watching!! There will also be Lego challenges from Miss Hemingway and practical challenges from me; so don't forget to check the blog!!

See you all very soon!

Keep smiling and have lots of fun!

Mrs Matthews
