Good morning!

Well the party planning is well under way in our house for Friday's stay at home VE day celebration! Sophie and Will have decided that we are having a picnic party (outside if we are lucky with the weather and inside if not). We have made some lovely poppies to decorate our garden and I received my beautiful invitation today.

Here are Charlie and Orla's invitations:

English:

Today you could start thinking about the menu for your party. Think of the type of food that you would like to serve (you must discuss this with an adult at home). Can you create an official menu and create some interesting titles for your food? You could also have a look for some WWII recipes, perhaps you could recreate some this week.

History:

Back in 1945 on VE day, rationing was still in place so everyone had to bring a little bit of something to the street parties. Can you find out a little bit more about rationing?

  • What was rationing?
  • Why was food rationed?
  • What did a rationing book look like?
  • What would have happened if food wasn't rationed?

Maths:

Below is a list of food with the amount that each adult was allowed per week during WWII:

A child's ration was exactly half of an adults. Can you use the conversion chart to work out how many grams and millilitres of food and drink a child would have been allowed (per week) during WWII?

Bits and Bobs!

Well done for those who spotted there was an error on the Daily 8 and Litz Blitz yesterday - I clearly need to work harder on my Purple Mash skills! You have some more in your 2do list, hopefully it will work a bit better today!

Keep reading at home too! Try and read everyday and if you find a good book, please let me know as Sophie is going through them very quickly and I'm looking for recommendations!

Don't forget about TT Rockstars, we love to see how well you are all doing on there.

One last thing - you are all doing an amazing job! We really miss your smiley faces and can't wait for us all to be back together again.

Stay safe.

Love from Mrs Kendal and the year 4 team xx
