NUMBER – Investigate 4/5
Clap to 5 .
Clap to 5 in your head.
Clap to 3 and a child finishes it off to 5
Repeat with another number until everyone has had a go.
Ask the children to fetch 5 different objects outside if dry or inside.
Place them in front of them at their table and arrange them into 2 groups. Write this number sentence in the books.
e.g 3+2 4+1
Do it until all the number sentences are used up. Now group them in 3 groups and write these number sentences
e.g 2+2+1=5 3+1+1=5
4 groupse.g
e.g 2+1+1+1=5
then 5.
Is the answer always 5?
If time try some subtraction starting at 5.
5 take away 2 objects?
5 take away 1 object?
Ask some quiz questions e.g
We have 2 flower but we need 5 how many more do we need?
5 flowers and one got bought how many are left?
How many vases do we need for 5 flowers if they all have their own vase?
